Narratives of Community
This cross-cutting working group will open the geographical horizon of the comparative approaches to historiographical sources beyond the mostly European focus of the first workshops devoted to this issue. An exploratory workshop in June 2014 already addressed comparisons of Chinese, Arabic, and West European historiographies. A wide range of texts will be taken into consideration, including a methodologically sound analytical approach to, for instance, Tibetan hagiography, South Arabian legal documents or Dalmatian court proceedings. This CWG will discuss how narrative parts in such texts can be made fruitful for the study of visions of community. Publication of results in a Brepols series is planned.
